COVID-19 During Ramadan (Game Reflection)

Me and Lama as group made a game called COVID-19 during Ramadan. This is a narrative game that shows a daily routine of university students. It shows how they are dealing with their daily routine while they are fasting in Ramadan for example online classes, assignments and exams. We thought that COVID-19 during Ramadan would be a challenge for almost everyone, because Ramadan Rituals is about going out having iftar with your family and friends. However, at the mean time it would be very difficult to do so while we are experiencing this Virus. In every Scenario we did we gave the player 2 options. The first option would be risky in terms of catching the virus and the second option would be the right choice to make to protect himself or herself and the surrounding people from catching a virus.

While creating this game we wanted to make it obvious to the player that he should take the right decision and the goal of this game to create awareness for how people should deal with each other during Ramadan and COVID-19. On the other hand, I think that if I had more time I would have spent much more time developing this game to be and application to be downloaded from any electronic store. It would be in a very high quality in terms of is graphics and colors and it could have cartoon characters that would show the game more clearly and would be more effective.

I learned from this game to take the right decision and how to deal with people while I am going out and how to create an imagined narrative story that we are experiencing it in our real life. For me it was my first time to do a game and it was very challenging to imagine how people would be dealing with this crisis, as it is our first time to experience such a virus. Additionally, I also learnt how to link the scenarios and my ideas with each other and how to build on these ideas to create a complete narrative story.

In the first draft we started to brainstorm our ideas (Scenarios) in a word document and link these scenarios with each other as much as we could. However, in the second draft we copied it in to a google Slide and we added consequences (results) for every choice the player makes, as this was based on the feedback from our professor Dr. Maha Bali. We also added some pictures related to the topic which is COVID-19 during Ramadan.

Before creating this game, I asked lots of my family members and friends about how people should deal with each other in these days. My father and mother agreed that we should stay at home safely and people must take all the safety precautions that is needed. However, my friends had a different point of view which that it wouldn’t be a huge problem if met in small groups, therefore I think that I would be very risky to do what my friends said, because it can lead to catching the virus.  Finally, I think that was a good opportunity for me to learn how to create a game and build up my ideas to form a Narrative game. I actually learnt new skills from creating this game.
